The Pirates of Penzance

Welcome onboard the pirate ship and join the National G&S Opera Company in a brand-new, swashbuckling performance of the much-loved opera, The Pirates of Penzance, directed by Sarah Helsby Hughes.

Frederic, apprenticed to the pirates as a child, discovers he was born on 29 February in a leap year, and his contract to the Pirate King will not expire until his 21st birthday and not his 21st year! Follow his madcap adventures as he finds himself torn between his sense of duty and his love for Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley.

The Pirates of Penzance overflows with hilarious escapades, inept blundering English bobbies, improbable paradoxes and sentimental pirates and is full of memorable songs such as A Policeman's Lot is Not a Happy One To be a Pirate King!, and Modern Major General.

2

The Mikado

The Mikado is one of the best-loved and famous of all the Gilbert & Sullivan operas, and this brand-new production is directed by and stars Simon Butteriss.
Nanki-Poo, the son of the Emperor of Japan, has fled to the town of Titipu to escape a forced marriage with the ugly, elderly Katisha. He falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is engaged to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner. To complicate matters, Katisha arrives demanding her lover.

Enjoy a hilarious performance brimming with Gilbert's ingenious wit and brought to you by a fabulous first-class cast.

3

The Yeomen of the Guard

The Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London and is the most emotionally engaging of the G&S canon combining tragedy and despair with W S Gilbert's sharp wit and satire. Colonel Fairfax is doomed to execution on a false charge of sorcery. To avoid leaving his estate to his cousin and accuser, he secretly marries a strolling player Elsie Maynard. Jack Point also loves Elsie but agrees to the marriage knowing his rival will be dead within hours. But Fairfax escapes, and chaos ensues.

Generally considered to be Sullivan's finest score, this brand-new production of The Yeomen of the Guard is directed by Simon Butteriss who also stars as heartbroken Jack Point.
