SAIL ALONG THE RHINE VALLEY · March 25th 2025 - April 1st 2025

Our fabulous new cruise begins and ends in Cologne, one of Germany’s oldest cities, known for its majestic cathedral, vibrant cultural scene and picturesque riverside promenades.

The journey down the Rhine River is a voyage through time, revealing beautiful medieval castles, vineyard-clad hills and quaint villages. Each bend in the river brings a new vista and a new story to discover. 

We will enjoy a fantastic selection of tours, including wine tastings, the unique Siegfried’s Mechanical Museum and awe-inspiring cathedrals.

This outstanding cruise will include stops in Rudesheim, Wiesbaden, Speyer, Strasbourg, Basel, Worms and Mainz.

Our wonderful, professional entertainers will perform every evening. And, of course, guests will also have an opportunity to sing and join our TA choir rehearsals along the way.

25th March

We join the ship in Cologne, in the early afternoon, before setting sail at 5pm. Performance: Our onboard soloists entertain

26th March

This morning we will dock in Rüdesheim. After breakfast we will take a trip up the valley, either by road train or foot to visit one of our favourite Rhine destinations: Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet – one of Europe’s largest collections of mechanical instruments for a guided tour. We will then sail on to Wiesbaden, docking after lunch for a guided tour.

27th March

We arrive in Speyer at lunch time. We dock in full view of the imposing cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 11th century on the site of a former Basilica, the building’s design influenced Romanesque architecture for centuries and is the final resting place of eight German monarchs. After a guided tour, we will return to the ship for dinner, before setting sail to Strasbourg.

28th March

Situated on the border of France and Germany, Strasbourg blends the cultures of both countries.
On our guided sightseeing tour, we visit the monumental red-sandstone gothic cathedral with its ancient murals, stained-glass windows, and fascinating astronomical clock, as well as the magical La Petite France
district, home to half-timbered houses, quaint shops, inviting bistros, and a waterfront promenade.

29th March

We dock in Basel, Switzerland’s cultural capital and will take a guided coach tour, followed by a walking tour of its historic centre. We sail at 7pm for Breisach. Performance: Our onboard soloists entertain

30th March

This morning we have free time to explore Breisach or an optional wine tasting in the town. We sail throughout the afternoon to Worms. Performance: Our onboard soloists entertain

31st March

Worms was settled by the Celts and is locked in a 3-way battle with the cities of Cologne and Trier for the title of Oldest City in Germany. It was the place Martin Luther made his stand against the Catholic Church in 1521 and the Protestant movement was born. After a guided tour, we set sail for Mainz whose origins date back to around 38 BC. Performance: Our onboard soloists entertain

Rüdesheim

Rüdesheim, nestled in the heart of Germany’s renowned Rhine Valley, is a charming town famed for its wine culture and scenic beauty. Set along the banks of the Rhine River, it is surrounded by lush vineyards that produce some of Germany’s finest Rieslings. The town’s most iconic attraction is Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet, home to more than 400 self playing musical instruments. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Rhine Gorge.

Speyer

Speyer, a historic town on the banks of the Rhine River, is renowned for its rich heritage and architectural marvels. The town’s most iconic landmark is the UNESCO-listed Speyer Cathedral, an imposing Romanesque structure built in the 11th century and the final resting place of several German emperors. Wander through the charming old town, with its cobblestone streets, quaint shops, and vibrant cafes. Speyer offers a captivating destination for travellers seeking to explore Germany’s past and present.

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is a city on the border between France and Germany. The city’s crown jewel is the stunning Strasbourg Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece with intricate stained-glass windows and an astronomical clock. Stroll through the enchanting La Petite France district, where half-timbered houses, charming canals, and quaint shops create a fairy-tale atmosphere. Strasbourg is also home to numerous museums, including the Alsatian Museum and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. As the seat of the European Parliament, the city boasts a vibrant cultural scene and a rich history.

Basel

Basel, located at the tri-border area of Switzerland, Germany, and France, offers a fascinating blend of cultures and traditions. The city straddles the Rhine River at its farthest navigable point, with a picturesque old town lining the riverbanks. Basel’s historic Market Square is surrounded by guild houses showcasing Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque splendour, with the red-sandstone Town Hall as its striking centrepiece. The city boasts over 40 museums, including the Kunstmuseum and the Fondation Beyeler, adding modern flair to its historic streets.

Breisach

Breisach, located on a rocky outcrop on the Rhine plain, is a picturesque town that serves as a gateway to the enchanting Black Forest region. Situated in one of Germany’s warmest areas, it lies opposite France’s Alsace, a region celebrated for its wine production. Breisach itself is renowned for its impressive wine heritage, housing Europe’s largest wine cellars with a storage capacity exceeding 160 million litres. The town’s standout feature is the Romanesque-Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, constructed between the 12th and 13th centuries, with its twin towers visible from afar.

Worms

Worms, one of Germany’s oldest cities, is steeped in history and cultural significance. Situated on the banks of the Rhine River, it is famously known for its association with Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. The city’s landmark, the Worms Cathedral, a stunning example of Romanesque architecture, dates back to the 12th century. Explore the Luther Monument, commemorating Luther’s stand against the Catholic Church in 1521. Stroll through the charming old town, with its medieval walls, historic buildings, and inviting cafes.
